Finally, my dear, we are able to step our feet in this old, culture-rich, beautiful country.
It took as so many years to get here, a lot of low-paying sideline jobs, a lot of tiring graveyard shifts, a lot of painful tears and stinky sweat, just to fulfill our European-dream.
Remember my love, that today is the beginning of a life that we dreamed of building together. In this gorgeous city will rise our beautiful home that will be filled with love, between us and our six children. (Okay, six is too many but I want six!) 🙂
Remember my love, that I love you before we have this city, I love you as we first smell the autumn wind of this country, and I will love you until our last breathing day here as well.
Brushing off my tears, I crumpled the letter that reminds me…
…of his long-forgotten promises.

So sad. Did she get to come to Europe. Or was the letter just promises he couldn’t keep bc he passed on? Great story.

They were able to go to Europe. The letter was written during their first day together. But they drifted apart. 😦
Thank you sooo much, Mandi! ❤

This is great! Such a sad twist at the end. 😥 He was full of promises he did not keep. That is sad! Lovely story, Rosema!

Thank you, PJ! When I saw this photo for the first time, I felt sad looking at that girl. And maybe for 5 minutes I have written a story about her. 🙂 Sorry it was sad. 🙂

The turn is bitter with regret, but the abrupt change in direction makes the narrative all the more impressive. Who knows why the other is not there? Well, we can guess. Whatever it is, it is felt as abandonment. You take your readers through much in a brief piece.

Thank you for your critical insightful words, Christopher. 🙂
They drifted apart before they were able to say I Do’s. The European dream somehow tore them apart.

Well, the European venture is there for one. I hope that, fictively speaking, it turns out okay.

Great story, too bad they didn’t last. Sometimes, we mean promises when we say them, but time has a way to pull people apart.

This is just a fiction. 😀 I am in no way dreaming of having 6 kids. 😀

You’re welcome 🙂 I wasn’t certain if the parenthetical text was the author speaking or the character. I totally understand. Six kids would be an unreal amount of work.

Yes. We are six kids actually and it is indeed chaotic! 😀

Some people leave their impressions forever and we never, truly get over it. A sad write leaving one with a sense of great loss.

That is so true, Thomas.
Though there really are love stories without happy endings, there are some which lingers forever. That after everything’s been said and done, that after you have part ways, there is a tinge of love that remains.

Every single person you meet will have some impact on who you are and who you become, even if you don’t recognize it. When those people are people you love, then the impact is deeper. So true!

That is true. I surely agree. Likewise, if the pain is from the person whom you loved so much, it’s the worst and it forever remains.
