Dear Anger*

*Part of the  free verse “Dear Series” collaboration with my poetry Queen, my dear soul-sister, my cheerleader and encourager, my lovely friend, Nandita of Manan Unleashed.
My dear Nandita has recently bid adieu to the blogging world (sadly) but we agreed to continue with our Dear Series. For readers who miss her eloquent poems (like me), Nandita ‘Manan’ Yata has recently released her debut book “Passion in Poetry: Whispers from the Soul”.

Dear Anger*

My scheming threads
can turn you into a puppet
A heartless, mindless robot
with fiery soul, corrupted.

Good intentions are my harness
Best wishes I don’t overrate
No space in my heart for malice
Such a soul is immaculate

Once you dive into my cliff
you will surely sink,
I bet no one will help you
until you die and shrink.

Contentment is my guide
On joyous clouds I float
Love will help me glide
Should I fall off my boat

‘Cause I am a fierce poison
that unleashes your inner demons.
Yes, I am a strong force
that’s too hard to reckon.

My demons I’ll tether
with kindness and empathy
Try your best Dear Anger
Love conquers all, I’m happy.

Rebirth*

*A collaboration with my Queen of Sonnets, who I consider a dear friend,  Melinda Kucsera of In Media Res.

Rebirth*: A Renkay**

Through bright light I rise
Endless night I leave behind
From a corpse set free

Body lays frozen
As warm soul flies, awaken
Is my life’s taken?

Into light divine
The source of life I see
Death is a doorway

Feet leads to stairway
Towards the place for the dead,
Also for rebirth.

Mounting the risers
I ascend towards heaven
Its pearl gates call me.

P.S. Thank you, Mel, for sharing your pen with me again! It is always, always a delight! Good luck on your new book. ❤

*Renkay

Renkay is a shorter American variation of the Renga. It fosters developmental linking in which the poets move the poem through a theme. It allows for linking of previously written haiku, unlike the renga’s spontaneity.

Renkay is:

  • usually communal, written by more than one poet. (It can also be written by just one poet.) The change of poet can either be indicated by initials to the side of the stanza or in this day of computers, by italics or change of font.
  • stanzaic, 5 linked tercets.
  • syllabic, each stanza is 17 syllables or less, usually written in 3 lines of short-long-short pattern of the haiku, sort of.
  • composed around a common theme.
  • often composed with a senyru as the final stanza.

Tell Me, Again*

*An impromptu collaboration with the writer who can make paint a smile (sometimes a cringe) in my face, Jade of Jade M. Wong. Give your reading heart and mind a treat by visiting her blog. 🙂

Tell Me, Again*

Can you hold my heart?
Or you’ll just break it in parts?
Please let me know.

I hope you’ll say
You’ll love me every day
Please let me know.

Thank you for continuing this little poem, Jade.

Cheers to more collab? 🙂

*A collaboration with my new-found pen-partner, Josslyn Turner of A Life In Transition.

From Darkness

Stumbling, catching breath
Through forest of black
Where dreams are scarce
Breakaway from the static

Searching, seeking light
‘tween trees like beasts
Death seething in the gloom
Catching souls that wilt

Struggling, fighting for purpose
Escape from the lingering shadows
Where regrets are abundant
The light above awaits

Climbing, rushing towards light
Away from a thousand broken promises
Inside the brightness of heaven
Beating heart’s now even.

Following the whispers of the wind
Toward a life anew
Heaven can wait another day
My time is here and now.

Dear Pretence*

*Part of the  free verse “Dear Series” collaboration with my poetry Queen, my dear soul-sister, my cheerleader and encourager, my lovely friend, Nandita of Manan Unleashed.

Dear Pretence*

A master in fakery
I make delicious lies,
with mask of bravery
and grinning wide smiles.

Sugar coated bitterness
a good facade you make
Smile laced with uneasiness
What an effort it must take!

Bitter crocodile tears
hides my inner grimace,
as one’s fears
were slowly realized.

Oh the dryness underneath
Misty flowery wreaths
Fear you hide beneath
The anger that seethes

My flattering words,
were never ever pure,
real praises I can’t afford,
cause I’m the best, for sure.

your honeyed words I feel
Compliments not meant
Dear Pretence, be real
how long can you pretend?

Thank you again dear Nandita for anotherlovely collaboration (despite your busy schedule. :)) It will always be my honor. 🙂❤

Dear Judgement*

*Part of the  free verse “Dear Series” collaboration with my poetry Queen, my dear soul-sister, my cheerleader and encourager, my lovely friend, Nandita of Manan Unleashed.

Dear Judgement*

Once accepted,
I can’t be erased.
Once received,
I can’t be fazed.

Once you enter
you are usually seen.
Empathy is my mentor
I will not let you in.

I break hearts,
and infect minds,
turn lies to art,
make truths blind.

Hearts gets bleeding
You are so unkind.
A parasite feeding
on the feeble mind.

With self-righteous man,
I will surely flourish.
Cause there is no one
better than all he is.

You’re so hell bent
I hope you do your penance.
Dear Judgement,
I bid you good riddance.

Mahulog Sa’yo | Fall For You*

photo-1429277005502-eed8e872fe52

*Very first collaboration with the writer-best-friend I never got to have, my now proud Filipina blogger-best-friend and an equally gifted poetess and storyteller, Maria of Doodles and Scribbles.

She wrote the lovely Tagalog (language of the Philippines) poem and I tried translating it to English. ❤ Thank you for letting me do that, Maria. ❤

Mahulog Sa’yo | Fall For You

Sanay na akong nakasunod | I have always been
sa iyong mga yapak, | a follower of your steps,
At ang anino mo’y | Behind your shadows
pilit hinanagilap. | I have never left.

Kuntento na akong pagmasdan | It is enough for me to stare
sa likod ng pintuan, | behind silent closed doors,
Ang pagsilay ng iyong mga ngiti | Waiting for your sweet smile
na sa aking pagod ay pumapawi. | that erases my soul’s remorse.

Kaya, mahal, pakiusap ko lang, | To you my love I beg,
Hayaan mong ako’y magmahal, | Just let me love you,
sa lihim lamang. | inside hidden heart’s keg.

Wag mo akong dalhin sa tuktok | Don’t let me reach your heart’s peak
para lang iyong iwanan, | Only to wait for your absent heart beats.
Wag mo akong bigyan ng dahilan para isipinm | Don’t let my mind wonder,
na maaaring may pag-asa, | that we have a future to share,
na maaaring ako’y mahal mo rin pala | that you can love me too, oh dear.

Dahil kung sakali man | Cause just in case,
handa akong tumalon. | know that I’m willing to jump.
Handa akong mahulog para sa iyo. | From a high cliff towards you.
Handa akong mahulog sa iyo. | To fall even to death just to be with you.

In response to Napowrimo Day 30. (yes, I’m done catching up! :D)

And now our prompt (still optional!) Because we’ve spent our month looking at poets in English translation, today I’d like you to try your hand at a translation of your own. If you know a foreign language, you could take a crack at translating a poem by a poet writing in that language.

Dear Failure*

failure
*Part of the  free verse “Dear Series” collaboration with my poetry Queen, my dear soul-sister, my cheerleader and encourager, my lovely friend, Nandita of Manan Unleashed.

Will your failure define you? Or will you define your failure?

Dear Failure*

I’m the bane
of victorious soul,
I’m the rain
sun can’t control.

Your test of rainy days
are a blessing in disguise
for the one who strays
into the path of lies

You’re a mountaineer
in a beautiful peak,
I am wind’s sneers
turning  you oh-so weak.

My faith is invincible
No matter the height
my strength indomitable
Burden heavy or light

Slowly you cascade
from top to bottom.
Will someone save
your life in autumn?

Succeeding in its fall
Beauty cascading free
An important stepping stone
Dear Failure, I honour thee.

Dear Hatred*

hatred

*A  free verse “Dear Series” collaboration with my poetry Queen, my dear soul-sister, my cheerleader and encourager, my lovely friend, Nandita of Manan Unleashed.

Do you know that hate is a double-edged sword?
If not, let Nandita  and I show you how and why.

Dear Hatred*

Drink me like a toxic soup
taste my cold bitter curse,
as I slowly, surely swoop
in between your brain’s curls.

In and out, you are so bitter,
you are no sugar-coated pill,
I must help you feel better
let me drink you to the fill.

Brought by tainted past
you can never forget,
I will remain and will last,
your heart I will torment.

Your past must have been hard,
anger is just masked fear.
Don’t let the future be a shard
pricking everyone near.

Kill me, yes you can,
blow my dark flaming fire.
Forgiveness, no less than
is my only bane for hire.

Let kindness be your lance,
your bane will turn into boon.
Dear Hatred, give love a chance,
love, I know, will find you soon.

Winter’s Dance*

*A collaboration with my Queen of Sonnets, who I consider a dear friend,  Melinda Kucsera of In Media Res.

Melinda, an eloquent poetess and a gifted fantasy writer, is the author of epic fantasy adventure Stars and Angel Sing. Visit her blog and take a thrilling journey as she takes you to the enchanted world of Shayari.

Winter’s Dance

Barren land blanketed with brilliant white
Sparkling ice crusts  all dripping icicles
Bare twigs displays stalactites, stalagmites
All part of the season’s endless cycles
Winter land’s fresh page is like a clean slate
Covering up Autumn’s leafy decay
With crystalline frost Arctic winds create
Blowing snow drifts that fly over the quay
Flushed cheeks, reddened ears, blue-tinged lips, freezing
As I turn figure eights ‘round the iced lake
Teeth chatter as frostbites come with cold seeping
But I spin and ice dance without a break
In sync with the whispers of frost, I twirl
Letting go of all my cares as I whirl.

My deepest thanks to you, Mel!
It is always an honour to share
a single pen with you.
Now I know how to write sonnets,
and it’s because of you!
