Softly part my
curtain thick
with innocence
preserved by
conscious choice.
Brick by brick,
please gently
chip, my wall
of fear—
to be charted
by a pair of
searching hands
detached from
my own
wheat arms,
by loose lips
longingly yearning
to take what
has always
been mine,
by unknown,
foreign organ
aching to reach the
so soft cave, I
have guarded all
this time.
With cheeks red,
chest raised,
breaths too short,
skin so warm,
stripped and bare,
“oh, my love,
you’re welcome.”

For dVerse Poetics: Desire and Sexuality in Poetry
Wow! *fans self* my, is it hot in here?? What a poem, Rosema! You’ve completely captured the desire and lust that’s a part of love, and turned them into tantalizing stanzas.

Ohhhhh maaaaaaan. I am blushing, sweating, panting. How gracefully you have painted this side of love (making). Like watching it from a translucent window, but still being able to feel the passion submerged in heat. How the moon shredded its light on the curtain thick with innocence, illuminating the cave. This is genius work, my love. Aah, and someone switch on the fan please

Ah, the rich sensual imagery, the heat-inducing metaphors, the rhythmic pauses, and linebreaks make for a wonderful reading — I really enjoyed the buildup, the energy of it, desire pouncing forth in a welcoming gesture and all of it happening in its own sphere with mutual pleasure. The request and the prayer at the beginning followed by a more decisive note work very well. I too loved this bit: “to be charted/by a pair of/searching hands
detached from/my own/wheat arms”.
Thanks for participating! 🙂

I am falling short of words. You seriously break down the poem in a way that a poet would really feel appreciated. Thank you so so so much. This is an uncharted topic and your prompt made me try it. I am glad it went well. 🙂

the wheat arms are the difference between reap and rape but I especially love the tender pleading
“Brick by brick,
please gently
chip, my wall
of fear”

I so much love what you wrote… the buildup and the heat… but most I love the conscious choice… it has to be two in the process.

You know I follow so many blogs, I usually leave short comments, and I never have time to read the comments others write. But I did with this one. I wanted to be sure you received the recognition this one deserved.
You nailed this. You really did. Loved that little brick by brick stanza.
