The familiar high-pitched screech of tires, the familiar loud cheers of race enthusiasts, welcomed me as if it was just yesterday.
Two decades ago, my heart’s racing as the man who owns it zooms for his dream trophy. Now my old beating ticker’s jittery again, this time for our beloved son.
My love lost both– the race and his life. That’s why I tried with all my might to rid my son of his dad’s roaring racing blood. But like father, like son, I failed.
Now I have none, but the hope that their fate isn’t like father, like son.

I missed writing fictions!! 😀 I’m glad to be back, again. ❤

In response to Sunday Photo Fiction for May 01, 2016.
Sunday Photo Fiction is a weekly writing challenge hosted by Alastair Forbes where a photo is used as a prompt for a piece of fiction using around 200 words. The piece doesn’t have to center around exactly what the photo is, it can be just used as a basis for a story.
I missed reading your fictions! This story kinda tugged at my heartstrings a little. I’m imagining the other parent, having their heart in their throat as they see their son racing, just like the father, and praying that the son doesn’t end up with the same fate. Really great take on the photo!

YAY! I am so giddy to know someone missed my fictions! 😀 😀 😀
You imagined it so well, Jade. I am glad it still tugged your heart. 🙂 I really want to be subtle and calm in this piece and I guess it still worked. 🙂 Thank you very much!!! I would love to read your take, too!

Thank you, Mel!!! 🙂 It is sad because mother really wanted to protect the child. I just hope her son won’t have the same fate of his dad. ❤

You’re welcome 🙂 sometimes you can’t prevent a son from following in his father’s footsteps or a daughter in her mother’s. it’s funny but over the weekend a ‘like father like son’ scene popped into my head concerning my characters.

I would agree! Maybe its because of the genes, eh>?

Such a sad take Rosema.. The son races too but loses race and life. The end line is fantastic, hoping her husband doesn’t die from racing like his son. Very sorrowful piece! But well written as always 💕

Thank you, Mandi! Apologies if my story is a bit unclear. 🙂 But it was the father who died in a race. Now the son is a racer too and his mom prays that his son won’t die like his father.
Nonetheless, thank you dear Mandi. ❤

Oh I’m sorry not your fault. It’s late hear. And I sleepy. I thought that what I said happened but then, I thought you reversed it. Sorry 😮🎈

Awwee… I feel sad for the mom who lives in fear that she might lose her son just like her husband. That must be tragic! 😦 But you could always tell that she loves them both because she let them do what they love even though she wished they’d stop. Beautifully penned, Rosema. 🙂

GEEZ! I am keeping my fingers crossed too. The pain of losing your husband is unbearable, what more of losing a child. 😦
Thank you very much, dear Maria! YOu surely felt every words. 😀

This could be a real story. Somewhere out there, a mom watches her husband/son from afar, wishing for them to be safe… My pleasure Rosema! 🙂 🙂 🙂

That’s a little sad. But I’m glad that she supports her son’s dreams. You have to let your kids be who they want to be.

So moving in such a few words. I live in (or near) farm country, where generations do what generations before have done. Same good things, same mistakes. You captured this legacy, Rosema!

Oh…that somehow reminds me of To Kill A Mockingbird. If I remember it right, legacy was discussed in the first few chapters of the book. 🙂
Thank you, Christopher!

Yes. Legacy is an important issue in the South in general. I suppose in most places.
Thank you!
