Exploring Ilocos Sur: Inside Safari Gallery

My Ilocandia adventure was wrapped up last week. But because of a special request from my dearest Fun, here’s another Ilocos-related post.

This time, I am showing you the photos I captured inside Safari Gallery at Baluarte Zoo.

Honestly, this place crept me out.

I have necrophobia, extreme or irrational fear of death or dead bodies, and as I entered the gallery full of ‘stuffed’ dead animals, I almost run out.

The animals that you’ll see below have gone through taxidermy. (P.S. Sorry Fun, mummified isn’t the right term. :D)

FYI: Taxidermy (from the Greek for arrangement of skin[1]) is the art of preparing, stuffing, and mounting the skins of animals (especiallyvertebrates) for display (e.g., as hunting trophies or museum display) or for other sources of study (like species identification) or simply the preservation of a beloved pet. Taxidermy can be done on all vertebrate species of animals, including mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians.

The photos beside or in front of the stuffed animals showed their ‘killed’ version.

And for me… the gallery is more morbid and saddening than fascinating.

But that’s just me.

🙂

  1. Oh my goodness! They even exhibited the ‘killed’ version in a photo! 😦 They killed for exhibition. This is cruelty! You are right, this gallery is morbid and saddening. Thank you so much for sharing them. I really appreciate it. ❤️❤️❤️

  2. You are a good friend to your friend.

Taxidermy is popular here, because so many people hunt. I don’t what to say. The only stuffed head in my place tends to be my own, when I have a cold.

I clicked on the A to Z Challenge link, above. I like how the celebration is described.

      1. I don’t hunt. I don’t need to. And I find the living animals too beautiful. Yes, to me the heads are creepy. Fortunately, no one I know has such a head mounted in the house.

The contest looks fun, and prompts to write to are often fun. So I think I’d like to join the challenge.

        Thanks!

      1. Yeah.. I was there so I have no choice but to take pictures. Though at the back part of my mind, I am thinking on how fast will I run if any of those dead animal will move! 😀 😀 😀
