helium-filled balloons
float up, up, away
from the dust
of the waiting
earth,
to kiss the sky’s
welcoming
mirth.
why do we
find it hard
to be like
the cheery balloons–
happy when
we’re being
let go?
maybe because
we prefer attachments
over freedom.
“maybe because
we prefer attachments
over freedom” – – Ohhh..This hit me. ♥
But on another note letting balloons go is also littering the planet, so I personally don’t like the idea of balloons floating away in the sky. 🙂

I agree with you about the littering. Even as a child I did not want to let one of these balloons float away because I didn’t know where it would land and what harm that might cause. Most of the balloons that I had as a child I inflated myself with my own breath. They couldn’t fly away.

aww. thank you, Gly. Do you agree? we long for attachments?
P.S. I understand. 🙂 Maybe we should not let those balloons go.

Are humans social creatures? And thereby prefer the attachment/company of others? Oh how I wish that I could be one of these cheery balloons, but my very existence is bound to two little beasts (I mean sons), whom I love. And, there is this business of being a wife. 😀 I love this beautiful poem. It’s so relatable. You never cease to amaze me Rosemarie.

Aww. thank you for sharing, dear Lonna. I think there are people who are meant to be vagabonds. Nomads. But there are like us who grows around a shared path called life. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thank you for the lovely words, darling!

lovely photo of such cheery balloons and the word mirth – makes me want to bubble with giggles. I used to have a lot of attachment anxieties but since overcame time , now a book and a pen is all I need. Such wisdom in your happy poem Rosie!

I have been thinking about this, dearie. Maybe that’s why how the poem flowed like this… I want to rid myself of the desire to be attached. Not to be in a relationship. But to share a connection with a human. But then I think I am not an island. I cannot do it. It’s hard. haha

No man is an island, ika nga dearie… I believe that when we choose to share a connection with anyone, even if it’s not a romantic relationship, we are and we will always be attached to that person in some ways. What we need to learn, I guess, is to let go. Let go, maybe not the person, but the negative memories and just keep the good ones.
P.S. Ang galing ko magsalita pero di ko din magawa. Haaay! XD

Letting go, to me, means freeing one’s self of negativity. We all need attachment in some form. The art of letting go is a difficult one to master.

I guess attachment is like a drug and freedom is like sobriety. Holding on to something or someone gives us a sense of security. Even though it might not be a good thing. But then too much of anything is bad. It’s when we find the perfect balance that we work it out well. How to find that balance is another matter!😁

wow. that first line is so powerful dear NJ! so wise!!!! and yes. the balance is like a tough math equation i cannot solve until now. haha

I would agree with that. We humans do love our attachments that usually only serve to bring us trouble. Good one!

damn girl, that last part about attachments is so dead on. This world makes it hard to cut ties and float. Though sometimes I crave it!
