Why humans kill each other is beyond my comprehension. but I can testify that you have been doing it since your inception. Only the weapons change. – by Mitch Albom, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto
Last Sunday was
my country’s 118th Independence Day.
After 333 years of slavery
as Spain’s colony,
my country was allegedly
finally ‘set free’.
But freedom is a lie,
independence, oh let’s just sigh.
After Spaniards left
two more invaders crept.
More lives were wrecked,
no freedom,
no independence,
was felt.
~
After a century,
of war and slavery,
can I say my country is really free?
Well freedom is a choice,
a personal decision,
no one can take away
even an army’s legion.
~
On another side of globe,
50 lives were killed
by a single heavy weapon,
rat-ta-ta-tat-tat
a single man’s the felon.
~
Oh humans,
oh humans,
when will you stop killing each other?
Oh humans,
oh humans,
please acknowledge to live is better.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand how is it even possible for one human being to just kill another human being 😦

thank you, Mel! News are quite depressing. I am close to losing my faith in humanity. Glad that I am in a great writing company that made me believe there is still good in humans. Geez.
Be safe and happy this week, Mel!

Very poignant poem, Rosey! We must stop killing each other! I agree with you. Choose life. Choose love. This latest terror attack in Florida is horrific. All terrorist attacks are horrific. There has got to be an end to it.

That is so true, PJ! It’s heartbreaking. Lives are lost due to hate and terror. It’s not suppose to be like that. *sigh*

i wish your country was freer. I’m glad you live as freely as you may. i appreciate your lifting up the victims in Florida. And all lives lost wrongfully. Why do we kill each other? I don’t know. In other things that overwhelm us, we forget that life itself is precious.
A peaceful and safe week to you, Rosema. You’re right, “to live is better.”

Well said, Rosema. I’ve totally felt sad and perplexed at this constant spate of killing. It’s just terrible.

Yes. And the saddest part is that this seems endless. It felt like a truth we should learn to accept.
