Dearest
the Philippines,
I have a confession:
in as much as my thumb aches to
shade the
name of
the president
my bones believe for, my
passport is held in a foreign
country
my wings
clipped, face first, on
a faraway soil. My
tongue, bitten by the bile taste of
regret.
I am
alone here, curled
in anticipation,
choked in worry, even honey
tastes bland.
My nights
are prayers in
the dark. May tomorrow
walk, crowned in roses, no thorns, just
blushing.

Do your best as you cast your vote.

A strong, powerful, and urgent plea…I was always mystified, troubled, sad that a nation of such wonderful beautiful, proud people as yours could get hit with such bad governments. I first worked with colleagues from the Philippines in Bahrain, then Saudi Arabia, excellent colleagues, to a man, and woman. I hope things go well.

I am happy to know you’ve come across some of my people before and grateful that you have kind words for them. It turned quite badly. A nightmare. But your kind words are respite.

this is profoundly moving – the longing for a better future, the yearning from faraway and the hope of roses.
p.s. I am aware of the election there and was surprised to see the name of Marcos in the running

Thank you for your kind details, Laura. And yes. He run and won, by a landslide. I am inside a nightmare.

This is so heartfelt and resonant too! I can feel your pain and hear your plea. Sadly, I think, most of us in Asia ( south and southeast) are saddled with bad governments.
I can understand how you feel about not being able to cast your vote. Every vote matters. May the people of the Philippines show sagacity in electing a good person.

Thank you and yes, we are and it can be depressing. Hope is a thing with feather but i think it flew farther after this result. 😦

Thank you for sharing this cry from the heart in both poetry and your author’s note below. I hope somehow you will get to vote. We have learned sadly here in the US how people are so gullible and taken in by lies. Good luck to you and to your country. 💙

Gullible. Filipinos are that and more. It’s excruciating and it has turned out worst that I thought it will be. Thank you, Merril.

This is so beautiful to read despite the worries that underpin the words. I can’t quote a single line as I love everything about it from start to finish ❤

I remember the hope I felt when you got rid of that dictator… and I remember those few days I spent in Manila, with all those contrasts… so many lost years since and I cannot feel hopeful in what i have read about your home country,

I never knew you have been there, Bjorn. But yes. We have forgotten that moment I think. Our nightmare just started.
