my brain, more
smudge than wrinkled-
thinking-machine,
eye-to-eye — last week’s
cold coffee & I —
where is the milk
in this sugarless
goodbye. we’re locked
but we’re also
the key. there is
a story within
these cracks in
timid tremble
float, afloat.
up, up, and
away.
—
I love this! I have never heard the brain described as ‘wrinkled-
thinking-machine,’ that’s just perfect! ‘
‘we’re locked
but we’re also
the key.’
That’s how I feel the more I practice meditation.

I liked the stuttering writing, it captures the intent of the poem well.

Locked by also the key… maybe only we can catch the self of our being.

This poem felt like a feather becoming lighter and lighter, thoughts lifting. Loved the format and of course “wrinkled-
thinking-machine”

I like the contrasts here…. that we’re locked and the key, that our brains are machines, but we can also be weightless… to me, it was like saying the world is neither black or white, but complicated grays.
