on aliens and cream borders: a haibun

More than a year I have been living inside this box with no divisions. Cream borders keep me company without judging my daily dancing alone and my full-hearted concerts on my own.

Identical squared-rooms from my right and left stood the same size as mine.  The closest left one is usually abandoned, an Airbnb available online. The room directly on my right has been occupied by another breath just a couple of weeks ago. We share the same rightful owner, but we remain nameless faces, after coming across each other once.

Wide glass window panes
taste the same April sky’s rage,
walls cage alien guests.

For some reasons, the image above reminds me of my apartment. The many identical doors housing strangers side by side.

  2. Your haibun made me feel even more grateful for my little cottage in a little village away from anonymous flats and apartments. I can’t imagine what pandemic life is like in a block of boxes with cream borders, surrounded by other boxes of other breaths and nameless faces. The haiku sums it up so well.

  3. Aliens as neighbors lol.
But that’s basically how it feels leaving alongside people you dont know..and i am sure the lockdown made it even harder.

Back home we know everyone around and then here we are…in a foriegn land ….

    Keep safe Rose❤❤❤

  5. Too much sameness and anonymity. “Cream borders”–this is a sadly widespread color. But you dance within the borders and give “full-hearted concerts” that serve the causes of uniqueness and of sanity. You do this in spite of the walls that keep in “alien guests.” Judging by the quality of the (other) comments, you’ve crafted a situation others can relate to. That’s great work, sister!
