Clothed pair of soles
dressed in faux leather top
and synthetic rubber pants,

clanking, clanking,
against the cobbled,
sometimes cemented
concrete jungle paths,

dreams to be
bare and naked
against the foliage
of the fallen petals
of Autumn trees,

ready and brave
to be pricked with
the crisp and thin
sun-dried twigs,

for the slave feet of the city
yearns to be the lost queen
of the wild—

the sanctuary
of the soul’s respite.

  1. I really like the contrasts you created between nature and all that faux clothing – hobbled on the cobbles

  2. This is soooooooo beautiful. Sooooo beautiful. Your paint with words in a way that no one can. And the most interesting thing is that this is so free flowing, like a river, so musical, so lyrical, like a well rehearsed ensemble. Soooo proud of you, mahal ko! Always!

  3. This poem builds in pace and strength of words, until the powerful conclusion regarding “the slave feet of the city.” Sister, this is impressive art and skill!

  4. Sister, this is really good. The line “for the slave feet of the city” is powerful! The themes of wild and sanctuary are important. To be both free and safe–what a wonderful lifestyle to have! I hope you are really well.
