Nameless Shadow

in the middle of the park stood
a rustic swing singing with whistling wind.
metal to metal friction creates creepy creeks.

back and forth, back and forth,
high to low, high to low,
the burning sun revealed no swinging child,
only a nameless shadow.

  1. The first stanza is a reverie of the k or hard-c sound. The second stanza is sad–maybe wistful, maybe tragic. The swing might simply wish for a child to return. Or the child might have disappeared in an awful way. Either way, you make thoughts and feelings happen, sister.
