Cave Woman

Cave woman. That taunting nickname was born when I was a teenager because of my bar-hate. The tag and my bar inexperience have remained until now that I’m almost at my four-decade mark.

I hate the smell of beers and alcohols, most of all, smoke. I can’t stand noise equally. Beyond these, I’ve heard and watched obscene, brutal, unfortunate events that happened inside an almost light-less, always crowded bar.

But today might be my cave-woman name’s ending.

I just resigned from my 23rd job when I saw the blinking WANTED sign. Maybe waitressing in a bar is my real calling.

  5. WOWWWWWWWWW! I don’t think anything good happens in a bar–I’ve been in some, though it never became my lifestyle. Lots of lonely desperate people trying to either escape by themselves, or connect with someone who’ll make the pain go away for awhile; and then there are the “fake happy” people trying to impress, or make deals…it’s all very empty.

  10. I’ve never been to a bar and don’t intend to start. I can tell you what’s a good wine to pair with cheese or food, but I don’t drink alcoholic beverages. I don’t smoke either. It’s nice to be you and not who society thinks you should be. Good write.

  11. I see her 24th job going. She’d have to change radically for keeping that job, and that would not be a good thing. The story is a good thing though. 🙂

  14. Different bars are different. Hear in Canada, they’re not allowed to smoke in bars at least. Perhaps, waitressing in a bar this woman will get good tips? But you probably would get grabbed a lot, depending on the place. Maybe an okay job in university and a bit later, but probably something better out there.
