Cherry Lips

Our old cherry tree is pregnant again with its plump, bloody, cheerful fruits,
which always remind me of your red lips as soft as the sound of the flute—
until that wintry day came and turned them so blue and oh, so cold.

  1. Goodness, reads like romantic tragedy. I mean, “wintry day” and cold blue lips make me think of dying. Maybe indifference, as noted above, is more correct. Either way, sister, this is a lyrical and powerful piece.
