Eloquence: An Endecha*

your sweet eloquent soft tongue
turned my black heart into red,
until my mind realized
what my ears denied— white lies are your best friend.

*The Endecha is a ” The Canción triste que encierra un lamento”, (“sad song that locks up a moan”), a 16th century Spanish dirge or song of sorrow.

The Endecha is

  • stanzaic, written in any number of quatrains.
  • syllabic, written with 7-7-7-11 syllables per line.
  • rhymed, rhyme scheme xaxa xbxb etc., x being unrhymed. The rhyme is often consonance only but true rhyme may be used.

      1. I just wish I hadn’t been too “in love” to see through it–would have saved 3 yrs of heartache. Oh well… If God sends me a new guy, the poor man will suffer through intense investigation!! 🙂 Hook him up to the lie detector 🙂
