Denouement: A Diamante*

Begin
fresh, new
opening, hoping, reaching,
start, pristine, tainted, decayed
closing, sulking, hunching,
old, tired
end.

  1. Sister, you use words in active forms to make the pace dynamic. Dynamic through the change from “opening” out to “closing” in. I wonder if you reversed the diamante, how everything might read. I’m not saying do that–the poem is striking as it is. I’m simply thinking about how the reverse procedure might come across in a poem. And in life.

Sister, you are a jewel, especially in your work.
