Winter’s Dance
Barren land blanketed with brilliant white
Sparkling ice crusts all dripping icicles
Bare twigs displays stalactites, stalagmites
All part of the season’s endless cycles
Winter land’s fresh page is like a clean slate
Covering up Autumn’s leafy decay
With crystalline frost Arctic winds create
Blowing snow drifts that fly over the quay
Flushed cheeks, reddened ears, blue-tinged lips, freezing
As I turn figure eights ‘round the iced lake
Teeth chatter as frostbites come with cold seeping
But I spin and ice dance without a break
In sync with the whispers of frost, I twirl
Letting go of all my cares as I whirl.

My deepest thanks to you, Mel!
It is always an honour to share
a single pen with you.
Now I know how to write sonnets,
and it’s because of you!

A delightful, if ice-blue cold, poetic summation of winter. The parts of the season you have chosen to arrange are apropos, even inciting memories of my own times. Though honestly I think I like your images more. They tell a compelling story. You two are well on your way to having an outstanding book about the seasons.

This is nice. I like the descriptions. Unfortunately, most days in winter do not get to the idealic temperature where you can enjoy the snow and activities surrounding winter. A lot of the time winter is miserable and cold. It makes getting around hard. Sorry to be a downer. Lol.

Oohhh. I never thought of that. Maybe because I haven’t experienced it myself. Thank you, Mandi! 😀

no worries 🙂 This winter was exactly as you described it though from a working standpoint, it was a relief not to drive on ice or snow that often. Though last winter, in my corner of the globe, it snowed every couple of days and the mercury in the thermometer hung out around the zero mark. It was one frigid winter which is what I drew upon for this poem 🙂
