Unfriended

We once promised to cross the imaginary line when we’re both single at 30. He surely have forgotten that, I don’t.

Partners in crime since we’re three, our friendship has gone a long way already. Always, we drifted apart when he falls in love, which happened a lot!

“Hey clumsy, what are you thinking,” he said as he adjusts my sandal’s faulty buckle.

I smiled.

“You know, I can fix your clumsiness forever.”

“Wha–“

“You are turning thirty now and we have a pact…”

“Oh.”

Our intense locked eyes, our flushed cheeks, our rapid heartbeats and our in sync, silent breaths finally signalled the ending of our almost three-decade-long friendship.

  1. Clever title! They are unfriended because they are moving beyond friendship. The title and the content (and the photo) inspire a romantic-comedy feature film. So I guess a screenplay should be coming!

  2. 30 seems old before you are coming upon it in age. Then you see that in the big picture, it’s not that old at all. So many people don’t marry until they are well into their thirties or have kids. I don’t think she should call it quits yet and honour the deal, there’s much time before her. Well written!

      1. Hehe it’s okay. Sometimes we don’t notice the obvious person when it comes to girlfriends/boyfriends/partners. It’s very true to life. Nice job 🙂

      1. I don’t know that I was ever really and truly able to be friends because I’d either lost a love or had my heart broken…but I’d like to think it’s possible 😉
