Newspaper’s Noise: A Neville*
Nervous, hurried, keyboard taps serve
nest for stories’ mind.
Never, eyes can’t be blind
news‘re inclined to evil’s curve.
No, good news exist but
no one can ever shut
noise of society’s evil nerves.

In response to Daily Post: Newspaper and Napowrimo Day 12.
Today, I challenge you to write your own index poem. You could start with found language from an actual index, or you could invent an index, somewhat in the style of this poem by Thomas Brendler.
–
Neville is a verse form with a combination of trimeter and tetrameter lines, created in honor of Mrs. Neville Saylor by James B. Gray.
The Neville is:
- a heptastich, a poem in 7 lines.
- metric, L1, L4, & L7 are iambic tetrameter and L2,L3,L5 & L6 are iambic trimeter.
- rhymed, rhyme scheme abbacca.
No, good news exist but
no one can ever shut
noise of society’s evil nerves.
This is so so true. Good news definitely exists but it feels more like the bad news always tends to prevails over the good.

that is so true, NJ! Maybe because… good news seldom happens? What do you think?

Well, there’s good and bad everywhere in the world. If focusing on the bad helps in a positive way then it makes sense. Else, there’s enough heartbreak in the world and I’d rather spread cheers and love 🙂

Oooh, I don’t know how you kept capturing such depth in so few words, but once again you’ve penned something so thought-provoking and poignant, Rosema.
“No, good news exist but
no one can ever shut
noise of society’s evil nerves.” ~> These lines gave me shivers, but in the best way. They’re eerie and accurate. You did fantastic on this prompt!

Intriguing form! Maybe I can try (since you offer the challenge). But your theme, the tendency for news coverage to be negative, is selected and crafted with care and such insight. Smart, artful work, Rosema!

Our government has been complaining about media’s reporting style. They say media only see the bad and never the good.
