In response to Blogging from A to Z Challenge: J is for Jánakú.
The Hay(na)ku or Jánakú is an invented verse form inspired by the haiku that is measured by number of words instead of syllables. It was introduced in 2003 by Eileen Tabios, the then pulisher of Meritage Press. The name Haynaku is the Tagalog equivalent of Oh My God!
The Hay(na)ku is:
- a tristich, a poem written in 3 lines.
- measured by number of words, L1 is one word, L2 is two words and L3 is three words. There is no restriction on number of syllables in the words.
- unrhymed.
- variable, the line order can be reversed, or the form can be chained to create a series of Haynakus.

yay! thank you Jade! i am curious to know how does it appealed to you? i mean what’s the meaning that you had in mind when you read it?

The word “jarred” looks a lot like “jagged” so I imagine hearts with sharp edges, like thorns to protect itself. It’s just a stunning image in my head lol

oohhh! Interesting thought, Jade! I think that’s beautiful to imagine! 😀

I agree with the others. The phrase “jarred hearts” is compelling. Heart in a jar. Jars have lids. Will the heart’s jar-lid open? “Love/beyond beauty” speaks to the right away to approach the feeling, challenge, and reality.

your wise words are indeed a treasure to behold, Christopher.
Jarred heart, i never thought i coined that term. Haha. I somehow believed there is such term. Nonetheless, jarred means hearts that are locked. And to your question, I think the lid will open. 🙂

I responded to this in another comment–but it also occurs to me that poetry forms are not copyrighted, unless you invent one yourself and copyright it. That would make “tagging” a matter of courtesy, wouldn’t it? 🙂 Perhaps I’m just feeling undue pressure right now.

yes dear. Sorry. No pressure is intended. I just want to read yours and I don’t want to miss it, that’s why i told please feel free to tag me. that’s it. 🙂 If it causes pressure then i apologize.

I have always linked to another author when I borrowed from them in any way–if I’ve not done that for you in the past, it was an oversight, and I apologize–but I’m pretty sure I linked to you not that long ago… As I may be quitting blogging, it won’t be something I do again–I’ve never lacked for inspiration on my own.

Dear Rosemarie–I really owe you a huge personal apology. I was going to email you–but I don’t feel I need to hide what I say (you can delete if you want to–it’s completely up to you). I totally misunderstood your original comment, regarding “tagging you”–and because Life was just wearing me down, I was taking everything wrong and snapping at everyone (including myself, hah!). Through last night’s comment exchange with you, I realized my error–and saw that your heart was entirely pure. I’m humbly asking you now–will you please forgive me? This is all I thought about into the wee hours, as God showed me the truth. I’m more sorry than I can say. You’ve been nothing but sweet toward me, and I’m blessed to know you here on the blogs 🙂

Dear Azul,
No worries, dear. 🙂 Really. I understand. I might not know what’s happening but believe me I understand. 🙂 You are more than that comment exchange. I know you well more than that. 🙂 Life happens, and we are humans so no worries my dear, Azul. Don’t be too hard on yourself. 🙂 Please know you are a blessing to us, too. 🙂
