Seaside Surprise: A Palette*

Crystal clear sea misplaces, hugs
pristine, soft, sun-bathed sand,
young pelicans roams and glide,
golden soleil smiles from above,
as warm whispers of breeze dries
your fresh blood in my hands.

In response to Daily Post: Misplaced and Napowrimo Day 11.

Today, I challenge you to write a poem in which you closely describe an object or place, and then end with a much more abstract line that doesn’t seemingly have anything to do with that object or place, but which, of course, really does.

*Palette

The Palette creates a vivid word painting within a brief and lyrical poem. It is simply a short poem, using vivid imagery. This genre was specified by Viola Berg. There is no prescribed structure or rhyme. The only mandate is the poem should create a brilliant image in the reader’s mind.

The Palette is:

  • a word painting.
  • framed at the discretion of the poet.

  1. Interesting last line “his blood on [her] hands” so either she killed him or more symbolically, she was responsible for how he died. Like Pontius Pilote washing his hands of Jesus’s blood. Great job on the form of poetry too.

  2. I could see the sea in my mind and then whoosh! The last line brings on a whole different picture. Whoa, girl! I am learning so much here ❤ 🙂

      1. Having read something of her life as well as many of her works (my sister and I exchange titles all the time), I think Agatha C would do nothing but admire and encourage you, Rosema. And the turns you craft into your work!

  3. I can hear and feel the wind on my face, the voice of pelicans, and the beauty of all twisted beautifully at the end. Just a darling piece dear Ema! ❤
