Honk

PHOTO PROMPT - © Al Forbes

I won’t forget that day.

Amid the heart-rate machine’s beep, Dad recalled how mom easily wakes up anytime of the night whenever she hears his buggy’s honks.

While dad’s reminiscing, the doctor entered and told us that after over six months in coma, mom might not wake up again. We might just wait in vain.

Sickly dad asked me to get his old unmoving  buggy. He said, “It is our last chance, buddy.”

After I returned, dad opened mom’s windows. He went down and pressed his buggy’s horns.

I won’t forget that day…

when we waited for a honk-made miracle.

  1. The buggy horn as a miracle. That’s the definition of holy–something ordinary used for a spiritual purpose. Great work!

I went to the source blog and wrote a truly short response to the prompt. I’m sure I’m supposed to pingback and such, though I don’t know how. I did mention you as my source for seeing the photo-prompt.

  2. An interesting perspective. I hope the honk woke her up. But then again perhaps she was tired, sick, and in pain and needed to be let go. I don’t know 😦

  3. Good morning, Rosema! What a great way to start my day by reading your story oozing with positive thoughts. 😀 I love miracles, too. And that last line was my favorite part. Very nice! ❤ ❤ ❤

      1. Hahaha. If I were a boyfie, I’d get jelly for you calling me a different name. BUT it’s always a joy to find you writing a happy piece (not that your heartbreaking fictions were bad). I really did enjoy it. 😀

  4. This is a great read. I was a bit confused at the beginning coz didn’t know what a buggy was 🙈 I love the last line like the others said and also the fact that the ending is open to interpretation.
