Mom always says “don’t let the sun come down without patching things up and don’t forget to kiss or even say goodbye”.

But last night was the worst argument that we had.

For the first time in almost sixteen years of marriage, he slept on the sofa and went to his office without saying goodbye.

I am sipping my fourth cup of black coffee, still to pacify my rage, when the phone rings.

“W-w-wait! What?”

“Heart attack?!”

“W-w-w-hen!!!

“Dead!? Are you kidding me!!!

“H-h-how!!!

Stunned. Shocked.

No.

This can’t be.

Time is fleeting, I should have said goodbye this morning.

  1. Sadly, it’s a very true thing your story. “Don’t let the sun go down on your anger'” it says in the Bible. But it’s just that you never know when someone will be gone for good. Saying the wrong words and fighting probably doesn’t bug them in the afterlife but it bugs you in your life with regrets. Great moral and an encouragement for people to say what you need to say when you can say it! Great job!

      Sometimes I commit this mistake too. Anger fills me and I don’t care if the sun goes down or if I said goodbye or not. But time is really fleeting. We cannot hold tomorrow.

  4. Oh, this is where “if only” hurts the most… 😦 😦 😦 I can feel the sadness and her guilt here. This reminds me that we shouldn’t take anything for granted and say our “I love you’s” and Sorry’s” while we still can. Poignant piece, Rosema…

      1. Haha! I think fighting is part of every relationship (speaking not from experience). Whenever I see/hear small fights, I find it actually cute. :3 BUT putting up a fight for days is quite scary to think for me. Ha! Still, habang tumatagal, lalong tumitibay, right? Look at you.. 🙂 🙂 🙂

      As to your question, I guess the answer is yes. It is human nature to hold grudge and to cling to anger. Yet if sudden death happens, we regret not forgiving.

      8. Ohh.. I think Alzheimer’s isn’t my granny’s woe. She just have a lot of hatred in her heart. Like thebold sins and mistakes that was done to her by this and that person. She cannot forgive, that is her problem.

      12. Yes. Hm… have you read Still Alice by Lisa Genova? It talks about Alzheimer’s. The movie version of the book won a best actress award for Julianne Moore. 🙂
