Mom always says “don’t let the sun come down without patching things up and don’t forget to kiss or even say goodbye”.
But last night was the worst argument that we had.
For the first time in almost sixteen years of marriage, he slept on the sofa and went to his office without saying goodbye.
I am sipping my fourth cup of black coffee, still to pacify my rage, when the phone rings.
“W-w-wait! What?”
“Heart attack?!”
“W-w-w-hen!!!
“Dead!? Are you kidding me!!!
“H-h-how!!!
Stunned. Shocked.
No.
This can’t be.
Time is fleeting, I should have said goodbye this morning.

Sadly, it’s a very true thing your story. “Don’t let the sun go down on your anger'” it says in the Bible. But it’s just that you never know when someone will be gone for good. Saying the wrong words and fighting probably doesn’t bug them in the afterlife but it bugs you in your life with regrets. Great moral and an encouragement for people to say what you need to say when you can say it! Great job!

Thank you so much for your insightful words.
Sometimes I commit this mistake too. Anger fills me and I don’t care if the sun goes down or if I said goodbye or not. But time is really fleeting. We cannot hold tomorrow.

Yes, I know what you mean. Sometimes you need time to be angry too. Thanks 🙂

“Never go to bed angry” is another way of putting it..just goes to show that we’re not guaranteed tomorrow. I enjoyed reading this 🙂

Oh, this is where “if only” hurts the most… 😦 😦 😦 I can feel the sadness and her guilt here. This reminds me that we shouldn’t take anything for granted and say our “I love you’s” and Sorry’s” while we still can. Poignant piece, Rosema…

Thank you, Maria! I am happy it gave you those thoughts. Though honestly, I am guilty with these. 😀 I can put up a fight for days, because I am so angry.

Haha! I think fighting is part of every relationship (speaking not from experience). Whenever I see/hear small fights, I find it actually cute. :3 BUT putting up a fight for days is quite scary to think for me. Ha! Still, habang tumatagal, lalong tumitibay, right? Look at you.. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Yes. I guess that is true. Though it is actually a decision you make everyday, hence the quote forever is compose of nows. 🙂

A sad but consistent occurrence. We must continue to strive not to bear grudges as the Sun goes down or rises. In essence, leave the hard feelings behind. Well written Rosema.

Thank you so much, Jacq. Your words sum this up. Yet, it is somehow human nature to hold anger and grudge?

Yes it is in our DNA.

Dear Rosema,
Unfortunately this is a tale that rings true. If we knew that person would be suddenly ripped from us, would we say things differently? Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Hi Rochelle,
Seeing you comment in my humble contributions really warms my heart. So thank you. ❤
As to your question, I guess the answer is yes. It is human nature to hold grudge and to cling to anger. Yet if sudden death happens, we regret not forgiving.

How sad it is to have a loved one taken away from you with your last words spoken in anger. This certainly confirms the wisdom, “Don’t let the sun go down on your anger.” Great story, Rosema! I love it!

Yes. I think it will really be hard to erase the regret of not giving forgiveness to someone whom you don’t know will be taken away from you.

I completely agree and why we should treat our loved ones with care.

That is true. But it is hard though. Cause sometimes our loved ones can really make us angry.

I know Rosema. I have a sister that only wants to fight. She has been like that all her life. She’s just a very angry person.

That’s so very sad. I wonder if she has early stages of Alzheimer’s? I think my sister does. My mother and brothers think so too.

Ohh.. I think Alzheimer’s isn’t my granny’s woe. She just have a lot of hatred in her heart. Like thebold sins and mistakes that was done to her by this and that person. She cannot forgive, that is her problem.

That is so sad and it sounds like my sister too. I’m not for sure my sister has Alzheimer’s but sometimes it seems like she does (forgetful).

Oh. If that’s the case I guess she has an early on set of Alzheimer’s. But maybe not. I can’t be sure also. But I am sure it is so tough for her.

After a while she will start forgetting things, if she has it.

Yes. Hm… have you read Still Alice by Lisa Genova? It talks about Alzheimer’s. The movie version of the book won a best actress award for Julianne Moore. 🙂

No, I haven’t read that nor have I seen the movie. I bet it was very good! (Book and movie).
