“Well I wish I was a fixer. I will fix you up inside.”*
This was the last note I received from my dear wife, a patient woman who vowed to love an addict and always-drunk short-tempered man who hates the world because his damn abusive father killed his loving mother in front of his five-year-old eyes.
She tried everything to fix me, I tried everything to ruin myself, to ruin her, to ruin us. After more than twenty long years, several bruises, millions of curses, she surrendered.
Ha! No one can fix me.
Until I saw an abandoned rusting blue vintage car. Drunk and high on drugs, I tried to fix it.
If I can make this darn old car work, it might not be too late to fix myself.

He had a very sad and troubled life growing up with an alcoholic, abusive and murderous father. Too bad his wife gave up, but you can’t blame her for it. Hopefully, fixing the car will also “fix” him. We can hope so anyway! Truly wonderful story Rosema!

Yes, PJ. The scars of his past remained and kept him a ruin. But the old car gave him hope. 🙂 I hope he will be able to fix it, and himself. 🙂
Thank you for another thought-provoking prompt, PJ!

This is an exceptional read. I enjoyed the built up to the final ending. A story of hope. In the end, He was looking to fix something including himself. Well done, Rosema.
Have a wonderful week …

Oh, thank you dear Mel! I guess this is the effect of books I’ve read recently mostly about war and abusive husbands…

oh sad reads those and yet they are stories worth telling.

Yes. I think so, too. Reading sad fictions and even non fictions make me feel human. I mean… they make me mourn and care for those live I didn’t even know.

I don’t mind sad stories as long as they have an end that brings it to a happier place.

Yes. He truly knows that he is a ruined man that no one can fix. But we’ll never know. He might be able to fix himself, hopefully. 🙂

The beginning sounded rather hopeless, but as I read on, I can sense hope! At least he’s willing to give himself another chance. A wonderfully hopeful story. Great job, Rosema. 😀

I am slowly trying to keep my stories positive. It’s a hardwork though ’cause my mind is a bit wired in writing dark stories.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha… It’s ok to write dark stories! Actually my initial story for the latest FFfAW was a horror story. The nomad is supposed to discovered dismembered parts of body. Then I change to cash. LOL! 😀

REALLY??? That is actually what I thought first when I read your story. Like the content of the bag would be ‘chopped’ body parts!

Yes! That’s exactly what I had intended initially! 😀 Great minds think alike! 😀

You captured well the sense of seemingly irreparable damage that comes from abusive relationships. I hope the car is the catalyst toward change this person needs. That is always hard to find. Good piece!

‘Catalyst’. Wow. That is surely the word that I tried to capture for the photo. That is will somehow be a catalyst of change for his life.
Thank you, Amy! Thank you so much! 😀

Great take on the prompt. I really hope fixing that car allows him to find some sort of peace in his life. To share a piece of his peace with his wife.
