Sunflowers: Flash Fiction

A symbol of hope, bliss and happiness.

For me that’s my dear wife. For her that’s her sunflowers.

That’s why I call her, my dear sunflower.

Her smiles are as bright as the yellow petals. Her spirit is as radiant as the full blooms. And her beauty has endearingly blossomed as she aged with her beloved plant.

But life isn’t fair.

Her dear sunflowers are now in full bloom again. But my wife can never see them again.

Her sunflowers are flourishing in front of our lawn. While my wife cannot even see the next dawn.

Brushing off the tears, gripping tightly the shears, I have decided…

today’s the day

to bid goodbye

to her sunflowers.

  1. This is wonderful Rosema! It is so heart touching. I agree with Fun. She sunflowers remind him that his wife cannot see them. So sad. I noticed you have not linked this to the InLinkz story board. Have you ever done that before? If not, I can send you the directions to your email. Email me at pricelessjoy@icloud.com and I will send the directions to you. It is rather easy to do although it appears to be a little difficult.

    1. Thank you for your touching words, PJ. 🙂
I just added my link. 🙂 I’ve done this with Top Ten Tuesday. 🙂 (That’s another challenge I regularly participated into.)
I have one question, though. How can I attach that blue froggy in my own post? Is it possible? 🙂 Thank you!

      1. Yes, there is a link in the challenge post that gives you the link to go into and sign into InLinkz (its free) and they will give you the link code. You copy and paste this link code on the html side of your story post. Another way to get the link, is to go into the story board and at the bottom left corner where it says, “add your link” click on that and at the top of the next page is an url for inlinkz. Copy that and paste that url into your story. That will also allow people to click on and go into the story board.

  2. Aw such a sad take. Poor guy. Are the memory of sunflowers too much, is that why he has to say goodbye to them. Or is he only saying good bye to his wife. Great writing.

  3. I just got my heart healed from the other day’s tragic love story but you went ahead and put a scythe on it. *sigh* Great story, Rosema. It’s so beautiful that it hurts. I do hope that the man remembers the good times whenever he sees those sunflowers. His wife would like that. 🙂 🙂

    1. OH NO! I am so so sorry, Maria! 😦 😦 😦
I have never forgot that but my dark-side kicks in again that’s why this story is truly sad. Read Priceless Joy and Fun Simplicity’s story! I bet they can surely make you smile! 😀

Thank you, Maria! 😀 Looking forward to your own lovely fictions!

Well you will definitely love Eleanor and Park of Rainbow Rowell. It’s funny, and cute, and a little cheesy! ❤

  4. This grabbed my heart. One year I asked my brother what type of flowers he wanted me to put on my mom’s grave for him (we live on different sides of the US). Sunflowers. Now every time I see a sunflower I think of my mom. She used to have a garden with giant sunflowers. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Lovely and sad at the same time. But maybe I want to imagine the husband smiling as he waters the plants and thinks of his wife… You have written it so beautifully, leaves room for so much imagination 🙂
