“Making a friend and maintaining a friendship are two different things.”
Aside from books and music and WordPress my life’s greatest joys are my friends.
I have a lot of them, from different chapters of my life. I have my churchmates who’ve been there since my toddler years. I have some selected friends whom I’ve shared my innocent days with. Yes, that was in high school. I have friends from my two previous companies, too!
Finally, and maybe the most special among all of my friends, are my soul mates/friends who I met when I was in college.
Why I’ve collected a bunch of set of friends? I’d say it’s not because I am good in making friends. It’s because I’m good in maintaining friendships.
Friendship, like any other relationships, requires time and effort. You cannot say you’re friends with someone you do not care about. You cannot say you’re friends with someone you do not bother to ask how they are. Friendship just doesn’t work like that.
It’s the same with establishing friendships in the blogosphere. You can’t say you’re friends just because you followed him/her. You should make your presence felt, and your absence noticed.
Take time to read. Take time to comment. Because you’ll get that in return as friendship in the online world is just like friendship in the physical world. It’s a two-way street.
I can’t say I’ve been such a great blogger-friend. Sometimes, work and life happen and I’m too busy to read and comment. But I am glad to have some blogger-friends who’ve been consistently supportive of A Reading Writer.
(Shout-outs to Melinda, Petitewise, Mandi, Kat, Arpita, clcouch123, Kathy, ranu802, Fun Simplicity, Heena Rathore P., Annie, justmaria, leannenz, Gradmama2011, fiddlerblue, Indira, IshmaImroz, Thistles and Whistles, impossiblebebong and Anand)
Of course, this list includes my dearest Edwina and Jacq who tagged me with this challenge. ❤
Your words serve as fire that kept my writer-self burning. 🙂 I’ll be littering on your awesome blogs from time to time!
May we all remember this quote: “Making a friend and maintaining a friendship are two different things.” Both in our offline and online lives.

I totally agree with you maintaining friendship takes work in real life and on line. I’m glad you have so many good friends in your life. It gets harder as you get older to to keep in touch with friends but I’m always glad I made the effort, even if a friend doesnt. As always, great post.

Your welcome. I hope I’m wrong for you, that you can stay just as close to your best buds 🙂

You’re right. 🙂 It takes effort as you get older because you’ll have your own family, your own kids. But as you said, maintaining friendships, as hard as it gets, is always worth it. 🙂

I think you learn who your real friends are too. The ones that try to keep in touch or even just go for coffee now and again and things feel like you’ve seen each other everyday. Those are the best ones.

That’s true, Mandi! Just like the quote said, making friends is entirely different with maintaining friends. Those who exert efforts are the best friends you could ever have. 🙂
