“Books and movies are like apples and oranges. They both are fruit, but taste completely different.” – Stephen King

The Broke and the Bookish Top Ten Tuesday for this week gave me a mixed ‘feels’.

November 10: Top Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I’m Looking Forward To or Ten Book To Movie Adaptations I Still Need To Watch

I love books and I love movies, too! But, a lot of novel-based movies are not as good as its printed counterpart.

You agree with me?

Nonetheless, here’s the Book To Movie Adaptations I Still Need To Watch plus some Book To Movie Adaptations I’m Looking Forward.

Note: This list only includes books that I’VE READ.

The Best of Me

— UPCOMING BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATIONS I AM EXCITED TO WATCH —

1. Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes

Me Before You (Me Before You, #1)

Yep. It’s on the works, now with complete cast and crew and Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke will play as Louisa Clark. The movie will be out on June 03, 2016.

2. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor & Park

That’s according to Rainbow herself. 🙂 Thought the latest news in that DreamWorks will do the film version but shooting and cast is yet to be revealed.

3. The Rosie Project (Don Tillman #1) by Graeme Simsion

The Rosie Project

The movie is currently in development under Sony Pictures. Jennifer Lawrence of The Hunger Games has, sadly and recently dropped out of the movie. I am still excited, though!

4. The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

The Selection (The Selection, #1)

Yes, I am still annoyed at Eadlyn of The Heir but I will not deny that I loved the first three novels of The Selection. So I was excited to know that Warner Bros. bought the rights to make a movie adaptation of this series!

5. The First Phone Call from Heaven by Mitch Albom

The First Phone Call from Heaven

This gets me too excited! 😀 Last 2014, Warner Bros.  acquired the rights to produce a movie based on this book, that you know I truly love. There are no current news about its cast yet but I will be surely so happy if this project will push through. 🙂

6. Allegiant (Divergent, #3) by Veronica Roth

Allegiant (Divergent, #3)

Yes, I am not a fan of how this series ended but of course I will still watch this film! The movie will be released on March 18, 2016.

7. Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) Part 2 by Suzanne Collins

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3)

I also don’t like the ending of this awesome YA series but still, I just want to know how the screenplay would interpret the written words for one last time. 🙂 This will be out on November 20!

8. The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

The Choice

The Choice Movie Poster

The Choice is one of my Top 10 favourite Sparks novel. (Here’s Part II) So I was giddy when he announced that it will be made into a movie. BUT, the trailer made me sad. I can clearly sense that the screenplay is entirely different. The worst part is that they ‘changed’ the part that made me love the story most.

So there! Glad to share all of these with you!

Please comment and share your thoughts, and your TTT links, too!

  1. !!! ~ need I say more? I totally agree with you about Nicholas Sparks’ The Choice movie trailer. It was heartbreaking seeing a glimpse of a book you truly love come into life— with its story utterly changed! To think that I even stopped reading halfway to give the movie the benefit of the doubt. After seeing the trailer, I’ve decided to finish the book anyway. 😦

      1. I know, it’s somewhat frustrating! Although I always try to keep an open mind that there are limitations to every movie adaptation but this- they didn’t just change the plot but the characters as well. They should have just claimed it as a stand alone movie, not an adaptation to a book. Readers will be furious.

  2. I am so nervous about Me Before You because it’s one of my favourite books. I really hope that they don’t wreck it! I hope you enjoy these adaptations. 🙂

      1. That’s true! JLaw was great as Katniss but I think someone will be better as Rosie! I am just excited to know who will play Don! Because he is the reason why I love the book!

      1. No. Hahahah! The happy-ending-junkie in me made me hate Veronika Roth for a while because of the ending! It’s like I want to erase it and write my own ending. Hahaha

But yes, it made the book heartbreaking. The ending, I concede, makes sense. 🙂

  3. Eeep! this is such a fabulous list! I LOVED The Book Thief movie…I think it’s super faithful and it’s just beautifully done. :’) I still need to see Paper Towns. And omg I still need to see Insurgent before Allegiant Part 1 is out. sO MUCH TO DO. XD I didn’t even know Speak was a movie though, so I’m putting that on my to-watch list. xD

  4. THEY’RE MAKING ELEANOR AND PARK INTO A MOVIE?????????!!!!! Brb while I die. I’m so excited for the Me Before You movie! I can’t wait to go have a good sob fest at the movies 🙂

  5. I didn’t know they optioned The Selection for a movie. I’m excited about that! When it was optioned for a tv show, that didn’t make sense to me. It makes much more sense to put it into movie format. Plus, the pilot for The Selection tv show was so, so bad.

    My TTT.

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! 😀

I hope I can watch the Book Thief so I’ll be able to compare. 🙂

Yes, Speak has a movie version that I hope to watch soon, too! 😀

Me Before You movie should do justice! The book was great! 🙂

      Thanks again!

  6. You definitely left me looking forward to some movies I want to see and a few books I want to read. I read all the Hunger Games books and I’m anticipating the Mockingjay part II movie in days! Same with the Divergent series, I read it and I’mm looking forward to Allegient parts I and II. I have never seen the movie for The 5 people you meet in Heaven so now that I know there’s a movie I have to see it and read The first Phone Call From Heaven. That book sounds interesting. Lastly, I think I’m going to have to see that Nicholas Sparks movie with James Marsaden in, I love his acting. I am not a fan of all Nicholas Sparks books/movies but I would like to See The Longest Ride which Clint Eastwoods son is the male lead. Good post!

    1. Glad to know your thoughts, Mandi! 😀 (Am I calling you right? :))
I have a copy of The Five People in Heaven movie but I still haven’t watched it! 😀
Please do read The First Phone Call from Heaven., it’s great! Really great!
And though I am a Sparks fan, I am not quite impressed with most of the movies based on his novels. Though the leading men are always, HOT! 😀

      Thanks again!

      1. Mandi or Amanda is just fine 🙂 Is it Rose or Rosema? I will look at Netflix for the movie I am excited for both The Five People and The Nicholas Sparks one. And I will add some Mitch Albom and Nicholas Sparks to my reading list!

      2. Rose or Rosema will be fine, too! 😀 Glad to know that! 😀 Yay! I can say that you can read ALL of Albom books because they are all awesome! 😀

But with Sparks, please be careful. There are some books of him that are a bit disappointing. 🙂

      3. Yes, a I have experienced that with Sparks. I read a couple, then I need a long break because a lot of them are alike. Did you read ‘Have a little Faith?’ By Albom, I liked it a lot. Thanks Rose! Glad to know you!

      4. If you need suggestions for Sparks just ask me. I would love to give you my recommendations. 🙂

Yes, I have read it. I have read all of his books, actually. 😀 I’ve been a fan for a while now and I recently purchased his newest book, The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto. 🙂 You can never go wrong with Mitch. 😀

It was a pleasure to know you and chat with you, Mandi! 😀

  7. Wow, what a list! I had no idea about a movie of Eleanor & Park — that’s so exciting! I have mixed feelings about The Rosie Project. I kept picturing Jim Parsons as Don the whole time I was reading the book, so I feel like seeing anyone else in that role would just be so weird for me. Great choices!

    1. Oh that’s the usual feeling when your favorite book will be made into a movie. Your anxious because the cast may not be those you have imagined. The worst part is when the major part of the novel is different from the movie’s screenplay. Argh.

      Thank you for reading, Lisa!

  8. The Lovely Bones! I remember I wanted to see that when it came out in theaters but I was a bit young and my mom was like, Uh, NOPE. And Speak — I feel like hardly anyone even knows it was made into a movie! And with a baby Kristen Stewart. I’m also dying for the Eleanor and Park movie. Also, Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me series also got picked up for TV. I remembered that when you listed The Selection as being made into a TV series, too. 🙂

    1. Oh I understand why your mom didn’t allow you to watch The Lovely Bones. It’s gross and sad and creepy for kids. 😀

I think The Selection will now be made into movie. 🙂 Plans for a TV series didn’t push through. 🙂 I’ve read Shatter ME and the first book is good but the next ones aren’t. I promise myself that that’s the last dystopia YA that I will read. 😀
